October 2006:

Welcome back to Girl Scouts!  It seems that summer just started and here we are with fall already upon us! There are many new adventures ahead!

Our first meeting was held at Orenaug Park. We enjoyed a hike through the park and took some great pictures!  It was a little cool, but the skies were clear.  Our whole troop had a great time.  Along the hike we worked in pairs on a scavenger hunt, looking for all types of items in the woods.  We discovered animal habitats, poison ivy, and a lot of fallen trees.

This month also began our BAR Magazine and Nut/Candy Sale.

November 2006:

As part of our “Stitching it Together” try-it, we made fleece scarves to donate to the homeless shelter.  We even got to use a sewing machine!

With the help of our town librarian, we formed our own mini little Girl Scout Book Club right here in Woodbury.  Our first book choice was “Utterly Me, Clarice Bean”, by Lauren Childs.  A few of our scouts joined their sister Woodbury scouts on November 2nd for some refreshments and a GREAT book discussion!

December 2006:

We sang Christmas carols at Kaleidoscope Thrift Store on Thursday, December 21 to assist with their Holiday Celebration.  Kaleidoscope opened last spring and was designed as a fund-raising source for The Wellspring Foundation Inc., a nonprofit educational and therapeutic center in Bethlehem, which specializes in treating individuals and families that are dealing with emotional and psychological difficulties.  All proceeds from Kaleidoscope benefit the Wellspring Foundation.

This month we were also very busy collecting pink Yoplait Lids for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer foundation.  For every lid sent in, Yoplait made a 10 cent donation to the SGK Breast Cancer Foundation.

The girls were busy working on earning their Write-Away try-it.  They wrote letters to their Brownie pen pals in Colorado wrote a fictional story and created their own journals.  They completed the try-it by writing letters to some of their favorite children’s authors (using homemade writing paper made by our pen pals).

January 2007:

The month of January starts our cookie season… need I say more?

Our second book club meeting was held on January 4th.  The book discussed was "The Music of Dolphins" by Karen Hess.

February 2007:

This month we hosted our very own Whimsical Fashion Show for our parents.   We had a blast creating our own fashion designs!

March 2007:

March 1st was our third book club meeting.  The assigned book to read was “All-Of-A-Kind Family” by Sidney Taylor.  What a great time the girls had.  Along with a great book discussion, the girls enjoyed a special snack representing life in an earlier America of cinnamon donuts and root beer floats, just what our All-Of-A-Kind Family may have snacked on!

We had a great time bowling at Thomaston Lanes with our sister Girl Scout troops!

Is it “In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb” or “In like a Lamb, Out Like a Lion”?  That CRAZY March weather!  Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate for us and we had to make the decision to cancel our cookie booth.  This ends our cookie season!

April 2007:

April 13th – 14th we enjoyed the Ultimate Girl Scout Pajama Jam, the best slumber party of the year!  We met at Camp An-se-ox in Oxford and enjoyed many scouting activities, including crafts, songs, hiking, campfires and smores!  We even earned some try-its!

On the 27th of this month, the girls enjoyed the annual Me and My Guy Dance with their special guys.  This year’s theme was Hollywood!

May 2007:

This month we enjoyed an Earth Connections Junior Badge Workshop at Flanders Nature Center and a Laser tag party with some sister scouts.  We also baked goodies for the 80+ people from our home town who volunteered their time on May 5th for HomeFront Day, a nationwide event sponsored by AmeriCares that has volunteers perform one-day home repairs for homeowners in financial need.

June 2007:

June brings us to the end of our fourth year in Girl Scouting.  It’s hard to believe that this was our last year as Brownie Girl scouts and the time has come for our Girl Scouts to move on to bigger adventures and newer experiences as Junior Girl Scouts!  On June 1st we held our Flying Up Ceremony.  Our “outdoor” ceremony was short and sweet due to poor weather but that didn’t take away from the fact that we had an awesome year!
