September 17, 2004 - It’s great to see the girls back again! Our first meeting the girls were busy learning all about Brownies! We’ve even started working on our first Try-It’s! We
made our own yummy yogurt sundaes and learned about Ananse Girl Guides from Gahanna. For
the next few meeting we will concentrate on our Brownie Girl Scouts Around the World, Playing Around the World and Eat Right,
Stay Healthy Try-It’s.
September 25, 2004 – Our School Bus Safety Field Trip was
fun and very informative!
October 1, 2004 - Today we had a very special visit with Librarian
Miss B of the Woodbury Public Library. She came with her Gregory goat puppet
to help us earn our Eat Right, Stay Healthy Try-it and read Gregory the Terrible Eater.
What a blast!
October 2, 2004 - Thank you Jane, Anna, Ariana, Regan, Kiernan,
Rachel, Hailey, Maureen, Adella and Nina for participating at the town-wide clean up.
The girls, along with many parents, picked up trash around Hollow
Park.
October 15, 2004 - Today we read parts of the story Flat Stanley,
by Jeff Brown. In the story Stanley
is squashed flat by a falling bulletin board. One of the many advantages is that Flat Stanley can now visit his friends by
traveling in an envelope. What a great concept!
So the Flat Stanley Project was created (check out www.flatstanleyproject.org).
Our troop is participating in the Girl Scout spin off called The Flat Stacie Program.
The girls made a paper Flat Stacie to be mailed along with a blank journal to another Girl Scout troop in another part
of the world. We will have a map for the girls to see and track where their Stacie’s
are! Once they are sent, Flat Stacie is treated like a guest, and the journal
is completed. Flat Stacie will attend meetings, special events, community service activities- anything the troop does. When
Stacie and her journal are returned, also included will be pictures of her with the troop she visited, activities they did,
postcards of the cities, landmarks, parks, famous monuments (anything to teach the girls about the area Flat Stacie visited). And while our Flat Stacie’s are out visiting, we’ll have some visitors
to our troop as well! How exciting!
October 24, 2004 - Acting It Out Meeting - We had a wonderful
time using our imaginations and putting on a mini play for each other. The girls
take home their "Let's Pretend" Try-it. Thank you Miss Jeannine!
November 5, 2004 - We took a field trip over to New Morning Country
Store for a wonderful presentation on eating healthy! The girls have all promised
to "try something new" and have earned their Eat Right, Stay Healthy try-it. Thanks
again to Mrs. S and Mr. K!
November 19, 2004 - The girls have all brought in small gift items
and filled 3 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child
sends a message of hope to children in desperate situations around the world
through gift-filled shoe boxes.
We had lots of fun playing different
games that are played by Girl Scouts/Girl Guides in other countries and earned our Playing Around the World try-it!
America Recycles Day was this month. It’s a national recycling awareness day that has been celebrated since 1997. The purpose of the day is to increase public participation in recycling programs and
to raise public awareness about the related issues of buying products made from recycled materials, reducing waste, reuse
and composting. To celebrate America Recycles Day our troop had a book swap! The girls brought in old books in good condition that they no longer want and for
each book they brought they were given a ticket to “purchase” a “new” used book in good condition. It was a great way to promote reuse and reading!
November 21, 2004 – The girls baked yummy goodies and served
them with coffee at the St. Paul’s Coffee hour. What a great way to thank St. Paul’s
Church for supporting our troop.
December 3, 2004 - Today's meeting we learned that good manners
are important and we worked on some activities for our "Manners" try-it. We talked
about table manners, practiced making polite introductions as well as learning greetings used in different parts of the world. Our last activity for this try-it is to host a party and put all that we have learned
into action. Thus our Troop 4506 Christmas Party/Cookie Exchange on December
17th!
December 17, 2005 – The girls and their parents all baked
cookies for our troop cookie party and we put together a troop recipe book too!
January 7, 2005 - Today we talked about the upcoming Girl Scout
Cookie Sale that will begin on January 15th and we worked on activities to earn our “Cookies Count” try-it.
Over the next few weeks we will
be collecting old towels for the Middlebury Animal Shelter. Additional items
needed are laundry soap, bleach, cat food, cat littler and dog toys.
January 14, 2005 - Millions of families in Asia
are struggling to rebuild their homes after losing everything in giant waves - called a tsunami. Our Girl Scouts can play a role in helping those affected get back on their feet. As part of our Caring and Sharing try-it we are collecting money to support the American Red Cross in their
Tsunami Relief efforts. For the next two weeks please encourage your daughter
to do extra chores around the house to earn money that she can add to our collection jar.
On January 31st each Girl Scout will have the opportunity to share their accomplishments with the others.
January 31, 2005 - Today the girls worked on some drawings and
put together a “Color-a-Smile Thinking-of-You” package for a Woodbury family going through some hard times and
in need of a smile. Thank you girls!
Our Tsunami Relief collection totaled
$125.00! Awesome job! This money
was forwarded to the American Red Cross for their Tsunami Relief efforts. Thank
you!
February 18, 2005 - Today we enjoyed a visit from Susan Lydem
and her furry friends of the Middlebury Animal Shelter. Susan’s discussion
on the animal shelter, its purpose and the different ways we can help, all fit in perfectly with our “Animals”
try-it. Thank you everyone for your shelter donations!
March 5, 2005 – We hosted our troop cookie booth at Ken’s
Hardware store today and sold an additional 88 boxes of cookies. Well done! The girls have all agreed that they would like to spend their cookie proceeds on a
troop Build-A-Bear party.
March 18, 2005 - The girls have been very busy at our meetings
working on their try-its and will be taking home three more today. Make it, Eat
it; Caring and Sharing; and Animals.
March 28, 2005 - Today at our troop meeting we talked about Stranger
safety and staying safe. We noted that a stranger is any person who we don’t
know even if they say they know us. We watched a short movie titled “Can’t
Fool Me!” featuring The Yello Dyno Band and their hit song “Tricky People”.
First we learned that we have the right to be safe. Then we learned the three core lessons for keeping ourselves safe:
1) How to recognize behavior that means danger 2) How to trust and act on our
instincts and feelings that nature gave us to protect ourselves 3) How to have
the confidence to act to protect ourselves in difficult situations.
For more information regarding The
Yello Dyno Method please check out their website at www.yellodyno.com.
April 8, 2005 – Most of the girls were able to attend the
Girl Scout Me and My Guy Disco Diva Dance. It sounded as if they really enjoyed
themselves…. I hear there was a chocolate fountain… YUM!
April 28, 2005 – The girls attended a Martial Arts demonstration
at USA Martial Arts studio. WOW!
May 6, 2005 - As part of our Healthy Habits try-it we talked about
how enough nighttime sleep on a regular basis is important to our health. Like
a healthy diet and exercise, sleep is something that we all need. Today the girls
each made a “Sleep Diary” and for one week they will keep track of what time they went to bed as well as what
time they woke up and how they felt in the morning. Keeping a sleep diary will
help them to understand the connection between the number of hours they sleep each night and their energy levels.
May 14, 2005 – We all had a great time at our troop Build
A Bear party! The girls all had a chance to stuff, dress and name their very
own bears. We even enjoyed some paw print cup cakes together.
May 20, 2005 – We have
completed the Flat Stacie Project and the girls took home their Flat Stacie patches today.
Congratulations girls! Some of you did a really awesome job and worked
hard on completing your visiting Stacie journals. Enjoy the return of your own
Flat Stacie and her journal.
Over the past few months the girls
had been collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and our final collection totaled almost 3,000 tabs and weighed
2 pounds and 5 ounces! That’s a lot of tabs! The Ronald McDonald House will bring all of the collected tabs to the scrap metal dealer and receive a
check which goes directly back to the house. Thank you everyone for your help!
Mat 27, 2005 – The girls helped to make peanut butter and
jelly sandwiches for the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter.
June 3, 2005 – For our end of the year celebration we hosted
a Mother/Daughter Camp Fire and barbecue! We played some games and made some
crafts and of course we ATE SMORES. The girls all took home their one-year
membership pins and as it is our last meeting, we would like to recognize Ariana, Adella, Anna, Regan, Maureen, Hailey and
Kiernan for their absolutely perfect attendance throughout the year! Congratulations
girls!
Again this year we will participate
in the St. Paul’s annual church fair held at the end
of June by contributing baked goods to their bake sale table.
Thank you to all of our families
for your help and contributions to our troop throughout the year. Your efforts
are all greatly appreciated.
HAVE
A TERRIFIC SUMMER!
