November 2003
Our troop is established!
We spent our first couple of meetings learning all about Daisy Girl Scouts. We
discussed the Girl Scout Promise and what it means. We also learned some of the
basic Girl Scout customs: the Girl Scout Sign, the Girl Scout handshake, the
Friendship Circle, the Quiet Sign and the Girl Scout Law. We talked about how
to be Considerate and Caring, especially during this time of the year. The
girls made Thanksgiving Coupon books to pass out to their loved ones.
December 2003
We continued this month with our Considerate and Caring
petal. The girls put together a Birthday package for a little girl from the Make
A Child Smile Program. They also put together a Christmas package for one
of our neighbors serving in the military and stationed over in Iraq. We held
our Investiture Ceremony and each of the families donated children’s mittens to be added to our “Mitten Tree”
and then donated to the local homeless shelter.
January 2004
This month we focused on being Honest and Fair. We held a game day and practiced taking turns (no cheating allowed).
We played a special Truth or Lie game that the girls really enjoyed. We
also started our Friendly and Helpful petal by participating in the Color A Smile program. The girls will help to spread friendly smiles and will supply Color A Smile with their beautiful
artwork at different times throughout the year.
February 2004
We worked on a special Thinking Day project as part of our
Be A Sister To Every Girl Scout petal by writing pen pal letters to a sister Daisy Troop located in Fair Lawn, New
Jersey. We also learned about our Daisy equivalent Girl Guides from different
parts of the world. As part of our Respect Authority petal we had a special
visit from Woodbury Volunteer Fire Fighter Mr. K.
March 2004
We continued this month with Respect Authority and
had a visit with Woodbury Police Officer Mr. A. We also worked more on being
Friendly and Helpful and collected food to donate to the local Food Bank and put together a “Thinking of You”
care package for a family of one of our Daisy’s Uncles who is serving in the military and who was recently sent overseas
to Iraq. Later in the month our Service Unit held their annual ‘Me and
My guy Dance’ and many of our Daisy’s enjoyed the night at Cinderella’s Ball!
April 2004
As part of our Use Resources Wisely
petal we recycled baby food jars and made adorable Easter Bunnies! Each girl
made one to take home and one to donate to the Woodbury Senior Center. To Make
the World A Better Place we braved the cold weather and helped out with the town-wide clean up by picking up trash around
MES. We talked about our Responsible For What I Say And Do petal and what
it means. We discussed “helping” words and phrases and “hurting”
words and phrases and which words we would rather speak and hear from others (and I think we all agreed).
May 2004
We had a visit with pediatric dentist, Dr. Mimi. Her visit taught us a lot about taking care of our teeth, eating healthy and respecting ourselves. We participated in the Woodbury Memorial Day parade and talked about ways to respect
others. We earned our Courageous and Strong petal by completing an
“obstacle course” and hosting a “show and tell” session.
June 2004
This month we had our last official Daisy meeting at Hollow
Park. We had the chance to flip through our troop scrapbook and reminisce about the year. We talked about Brownie
Girl Scouts, enjoyed ourselves playing some games, took a hike and ate "daisy" cupcakes! As a thank you to St. Paul's
Church for their support of our troop this past year we helped out at their annual church fair by donating baked goodies to
their bake sale booth.
At this time we would like to thank all of our
families for their help and contributions to our troop throughout the year. Your
efforts are all greatly appreciated. See you next year as Brownies!
